Painting the Door
Clean the door, jamb, and molding with a lint-free cloth and denatured
alcohol. Allow the door to dry thoroughly. Lightly sand the door surfaces
including the molding and door jamb to improve paint adhesion. Wipe the
door clean with denatured alcohol and allow to dry.
First, prime with an alkyd or acrylic based primer and allow to dry. Paint
all sides of the door, jamb, and molding with a good quality exterior water-
based 100% acrylic latex paint.
To simulate a traditional stile and rail door look with a paint brush, paint
the panels first, then across all the rails from one edge of the door to the
other. Then paint the stiles from the top of the door to the bottom. The
door can also be rolled for a stipple look. For best results, apply multiple
light coats.
