9.1 FUEL INJECTOR PUMP
NOTE: Gravely does not recommend making adjust-
ments to the fuel pump. If adjustments or repairs are
needed, Gravely recommends using an authorized
injection pump service facility.
9.2 FUEL SYSTEM PRIMING
1. Add clean fresh diesel fuel to the fuel tank.
2. Make sure that the fuel shut off valve is in the open
position.
3. Use the finger tab located on the fuel feed pump
assembly to pump fuel through the system.
NOTE: The engines Gravely uses are self bleeding to
the fuel pump. Once fuel reaches the fuel pump the
engine should be able to start by cranking the engine
over a couple of short bursts. The need to loosen injec-
tors may be necessary to allow fuel to reach the injec-
tor nozzles.
9.3 FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION
Any time fuel contamination is found in the fuel system
(dirt, water, etc.) replace the fuel, fuel filter and flush
the fuel lines. Remove each injector nozzle and
perform a pop test to assure that the ports are clear
and a correct fuel spray is present.
9.4 FUEL TANK
To drain the fuel tank:
1. Clean the fuel lines at the fuel feed pump assembly
and fuel filter assembly.
2. Clamp off the fuel lines at the feed pump and fuel
filter assembly and loosen the fuel line clamps.
3. Remove the fuel line at the feed pump fitting and
pull the hose down through the frame. Remove the
clamp and drain the fuel into a fuel storage
container.
4. Remove the fuel line at the fuel filter assembly and
pull the hose down through the frame. Remove the
clamp and drain the fuel into a fuel storage
container.
To remove the fuel tank:
1. Drain the fuel tank.
2. Remove the top and bottom bolts holding the fuel
tank strap in place.
3. Remove the fuel tank from the unit.
4. Inspect and replace any worn or damaged parts.
Do not try to repair the fuel tank; replace it with a
new one if needed.
To install the fuel tank:
1. Install the fuel tank using the fuel tank strap, install
the bolts and tighten.
2. Route the fuel lines to their proper connection
points.
3. Install the hose clamps.
SECTION 9 - FUEL SYSTEM
CAUTION: Use caution when performing pop
test on the injector nozzles. The diesel fuel is
under extremely high pressure and can cause
serious injury to personnel.
CAUTION: Use caution with fuel. Fuel is very
flammable. Keep fuel away from fire or heat.
When working with fuel be in a well ventilated
area. Keep fuel in an OSHA-approved
container.
