GENERAL INFORMATION
COMPATABILITY
This equipment is totally compatible with our previous range of units. In practice it is possible to use our original
GSOC4 commentator’s boxes with our new GSOC23 or GSOC26 base stations. It is equally possible to use our
new GSOC24 commentator’s boxes with any of our original base stations GSOC3, GSOC5 or GSOC8.
A number of additions and improvements are included in this range of equipment. The main difference is that the
commentators box GSOC24 now has provision for 3 instead of 2 commentators. Low voltage phantom power is
provided for each commentator to permit the use of modern headsets with electret microphones. Connectors for the
headset’s are now standardised with a 3 pin XLR fixed socket for the microphone and a standard tip, ring, sleeve
jack for the headphones.
Overall weight and size of the base station GSOC23 is considerably less than it’s predecessor GSOC3. Solid state
line ident recorders are now included for the main programme output and the co-ordination output of each channel.
SYSTEM
A system always consists of a base station and a number of commentator’s boxes. The GSOC23 base station can be
fitted with 1 to 5 channels to operate with 1 to 5 commentator’s boxes. The 1U base station type GSOC26 has
facilities for only a single commentator’s box. Each commentators box is connected to the base station with a single
75 ohm co-axial cable. The maximum length of this cable is 500metres.
TRANSMISSION
Time division multiplex is used to pass 3 audio signals from the commentators box to the base station as well as 7
audio signals from the base station to the commentators box. Simultaneously data is passed in both directions down
the co-axial cable and power is passed from the base station to the commentary box.
