Solution

Cause

Problem

The bread rises too fast.

The bread does not rise or has

risen only slightly.

The bread goes down in the

middle.

The dough rises too much and

spills over the baking pan.

Too much yeast, too much flour

or not enough salt.

Not enough yeast was added.

The yeast is old and will not

work.

The yeast has come into

contact with the liquid.

If the water in your area is

soft it may cause the yeast to

ferment more.

Too much milk can cause the

yeast to ferment more.

Too many additional

ingredients were added.

The liquid was too hot.

Wrong type of flour or stale

flour.

Too much or not enough liquid.

There was too much dough in

the baking pan.

The fermentation was too short

or too fast. The water may have

been too warm or the baking

pan/bread maker was too

hot when the baking pan was

placed in it.

Not enough sugar.

Always measure the ingredients

correctly and ensure all of the

ingredients have been correctly

added.

Always check you are using the

correct amount of ingredients.

Dispose and replace with a

fresh pack of yeast.

Use only fresh and correctly

stored ingredients.

If this happens add less sugar

or yeast.

Reduce the amount of yeast

and add more water.

Check you have the correct

quantity of additional

ingredients before adding

them to the baking pan.

Allow liquids to cool to room

temperature before adding to

the baking pan.

Check you have used the

correct type of flour and it is

not past it’s best before date.

Check that you have the correct

amount of ingredients before

placing them in the baking pan.

Check that you have the correct

amount of ingredients before

placing them in the baking pan.

Check that the water was not

too warm before adding. Allow

the bread maker and all its

parts to fully cool down before

using again.
