10 Service and maintenance
10.1 Maintenance recommendations
NOTICE
The screw compressor unit can only operate to
your complete satisfaction when the
maintenance work is carefully carried out at the
specified intervals.
In order to facilitate this task, the scope of
supply of the screw compressor unit comprises
the
“Maintenance and inspection manual for
Gardner Denver compressors
”, in which you
can list your performed maintenance work at
the specified intervals.
You can also have this maintenance work
performed by our trained technicians. Please
ask your Gardner Denver distributor for a
maintenance contract.
10.2 Maintenance Electric Motor
The maintenance of the electric motor is to be
performed in line with the motor operating instructions.
10.2.1 Motor Lubrication
Long time satisfactory operation of an electric
motor depends in large measure on proper
lubrication of the bearings. The following charts
show recommended grease qualities and
regreasing intervals for ball bearing motors. For
additional information refer to the motor
manufacturer
’s instructions. The following
procedure should be used in regreasing:
1. Stop the unit.
2. Disconnect, lockout and tagout the unit from the
power supply.
3. Remove the relief plug and free hole of
hardened grease.
4. Wipe lubrication fitting clean and add grease
with a hand-operated grease gun. Only enough
grease
should be added to replace the grease used by
the bearing. Too much grease can be as harmful
as insufficient grease. The grease cavity should
be about 1/2 full.
5. Leave the relief plug temporarily off. Reconnect
the unit and run for about 20 minutes to expel the
excess grease.
6. Stop the unit. Replace the relief plug.
7. Restart the unit.
WARNING
Rotating machinery can cause injury or death.
Open main disconnect, lockout and tagout power
supply to starter before working on the electric
motor.
