11. Install and hand tighten the packing nut
to align the packing in the bore.
12. Loosen the packing nut to allow for
installation of the plunger.
13. Grease plunger, insert through the
suction cover hole into the packing. It
may be necessary to bump the plunger
through the packing with a slide
hammer.
14. Tighten the packing nut.
15. Inspect the clamp surfaces, plungers,
and pony rods; apply coat of grease.
16. Install the clamp and tighten the clamp
screws with 58 ft-lbs. torque.
17. Check tightness of packing nut again.
18. Replace suction cover seals.
19. Install the suction covers and tighten
the suction cover retainer nuts.
20. Make sure that the plunger lube lines
are in place before restarting the
pump.
Plunger Size Change
The Fluid Cylinder must be replaced if it is
determined that the plunger size must be
changed to meet job requirements. Each
plunger size requires a different fluid end.
1.
Follow steps 1 through 7 of the “ Fluid
End Removal and Installation” section
on page 20.
2.
Install the new fluid end size by
following steps 1 through 6 on page 21.
Valve and Seat Replacement
This procedure may be performed with the
fluid end on the pump.
WARNING
Never try to remove or cut a valve
seat with a torch. Severe damage to
the fluid end may occur.
Before starting, make sure that special tools
required for this procedure are available.
For part numbers of the tools see the Parts
Manual.
1.
Remove the discharge cover retainer
nut with the hex wrench provided with
the pump.
2.
Remove the discharge cover with a
threaded “slide hammer” type puller.
3.
Remove the discharge valve spring
and discharge valve.
4.
Remove the suction cover retainer nut
with the hex wrench provided with the
pump.
5.
Remove the suction cover with a "slide
hammer type" puller.
6.
Remove the suction manifold bolts and
lower the manifold to rest on the
manifold hinge bolts.
7.
Remove the roll pin from the suction
valve keeper pin in the valve stem.
8.
Compress the suction valve spring by
lifting the valve keeper away from the
keeper pin and toward the valve guide.
A suction spring tool is available for
performing this step. (See “Special
Tools” section of Parts List.) With the
spring compressed remove the valve
keeper
pin.
Slowly
release
the
compression and remove the suction
valve keeper, spring, and guide.
9.
Remove the suction valve through the
suction cover bore.
10. Remove the suction valve seat and
discharge valve seat with a seat puller
and a seat puller jack. These tools are
available from Gardner Denver. (See
“Special Tools” section of Parts List.)
11. Clean the valve seat deck thoroughly.
