3.1. Fitting the cuff
. Pass the end of the cuff through the flat
metal ring so that a loop is formed.
. Place the cuff over the left upper arm
so that tube is closer to your lower arm.
. Lay the cuff on the arm so that the low-
er edge of the cuff lies approximately to
cm above the elbow.
4. Tighten the cuff by pulling the end and
close the cuff by affixing the velcro. There
should be little free space between the arm
and the cuff. Cuff that does not fit properly
results in false measurement values. Cloth-
ing must not restrict the arm. Any piece of
clothing which does must be removed.
5. Lay your arm on a table so the cuff is at
the same height as your heart. If the upper
arm artery lies considerably lower or higher
than the heart, a false higher or lower blood
pressure will be measured! A variation of 5
cm between cuff and heart level can result in
a reading error of + or - 0mm Hg.
Make sure the tube is not kinked.
6. Remain seated quietly for two minutes
before you begin the measurement.

3.2. Measuring procedure
To carry out measurement
. Press the START button. The device is
switched on. Many icons appear in the dis-
play for seconds. A short double beep fol-
lows to indicate that the device is ready. A
«0» is shown in the display.
. Grasp the pumping bulb with your free
hand and Inflate the cuff to a pressure at least
40 mmHg higher than the expected systolic
pressure. If you do not know the value of this
pressure, inflate to a value of approximately
60–80 mmHg. The cuff pressure is shown
continuously on the display.
. After the inflation process lay down the
pumping bulb and remain in a quiet and re-
laxed sitting position.
The measurement now proceeds on its
own.
If no measurement takes place and all
that appears in the display is a flashing, up-
wards pointing arrow , pump the ball once
again and inflate to a higher pressure (see
clause Inflating further given below). When
the device detects a pulse, a heart symbol in
the display starts to flash and a beep is heard
for every heart beat.
