.3 Essentials for Driving
under Various Condi-
tions
•
Always drive at a lower speed in a lateral
gust. Doing so can maintain full control
of your vehicle.
•
Maintain an appropriate angle to avoid
driving at high, sharp-edged objects or
other barriers on roads. Failure to do so
may cause tire burst and other serious
damage.
•
Slow down if you ever drive your vehicle
on very rough or rutted roads. You could
damage the suspension and underbody
by impact and bottoming out.
•
Brake may be wet when the vehicle is
washed or is running through deep wa-
ter. Pay attention to the safety around,
and then gently press the brake pedal.
If there is no brake force, the brake may
be wet. To dry the brakes, press the
brake pedal with the parking brake ap-
plied. Drive your vehicle with care. If the
brakes still cannot work properly. Park
your vehicle on the roadside and contact
your dealer for help.
Warning
•
Before driving, make sure the park
-
ing brake is released fully and its
indicator has gone out.
•
When you are driving, do not rest
your foot on the brake pedal. Doing
so can cause dangerous overheat-
ing and unnecessary wear and fuel
waste.
•
Slow down by shifting to a lower
gear when going down a steep hill.
Remember that using the brakes ex
-
cessively can cause them too over-
heated to work properly.
•
Use caution during acceleration,
upshifting, downshifting or braking
on slippery road surfaces. Sudden
acceleration or engine braking can
cause wheel slip or wheel spin.
•
Do not drive any more when brake
is wet. If the brakes get wet, the
braking distance will be longer than
usual when the brake is applied and
the vehicle may pull to one side.
The parking brake cannot stop the
vehicle firmly, either.
