5.2 Connecting the Modem
This item describes the procedure for connecting the modem to the remote service board.
Electric shock
Before connecting the modem, turn OFF the server unit
and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cable
from the power outlet.
Failure to do so might cause electric shock.

Connecting procedure
1.
Connect the RS-232C cable to the remote service board.
Connect the RS-232C cable connector (9-pin) to the serial port connector on the
remote service board.
2.
Connect the RS-232C cable to the modem.
Referring to the User's Manual for the modem, connect the other connector to the
modem.
3.
Connect the telephone line cable to the modem.
Referring to the User's Manual for the modem, connect the other connector of the
telephone line cable connected to the telephone line modular jack to the LINE
terminal on the modem.
4.
Connect the modem's power supply.
Referring to the User's Manual for the modem, connect the modem's power supply
(AC adapter provided with the modem) to the modem.
When an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) is in use, we recommend
connecting the modem's power plug to the UPS to enable communications in the
event of a power interruption.
