clean before checking the oil. Do not use a pres-
sure washer to clean the hub/plug area. The plug
has a vent and this can contaminate the oil with
water.
1.
Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down
the engine and set the parking brakes. Chock
the tires.
2.
Inspect the axle hub cap and vent plug for evi-
dence of excessive leakage.
3.
Wipe the hub cap and vent plug clean with a rag.
4.
Remove the vent plug and check the oil for evi-
dence of water contamination.
If there is evidence of water contaminated oil in
the hub, disassemble the effected axle end,
clean, inspect, and reassemble the axle end. For
instructions, refer to
of the vehicle’s
Workshop Manual.
If there is evidence of excessive leakage, re-
move the damaged part and replace it with a
new part.
5.
Check the oil level in the hub, and fill the hub
with new approved oil as needed.
