FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System
SECTION III - Checkout
3.1
GENERAL
This section contains installation checkout, system configuration, and basic operating procedures. More detailed operating
procedures are contained in the Pilot Guide.
3.1.1
Continued Airworthiness Requirements
The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus requires no periodic maintenance or calibration. Maintenance is performed
on an on-condition basis only. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus is continually tested using Built-In Test
Equipment (BITE) when the system is in operation. This method of testing will notify the operator of a failure. System
software updates are accomplished using the card slot on the front of the unit and instructions described in normal
Service Bulletin notification.

SYSTEM CHECKOUT
3.2.1
Preliminary Test
Before the unit is installed and tested, verify installation accuracy. With the unit removed, turn on the power and verify
the following:
1.
Verify that Aircraft DC bus voltage is present on pins 16 and 17 of P1 and pins 65 and 66 of P2. Also, if external
annunciators are installed, verify that voltage is present on pins 14, 15, 28, and 30 of P1 and pins 26, 27, and
of P2.
2.
Verify that ground is present on pins 3 and 20 of P1 and pins 33 and 34 of P2, and that pin 26 of P1 is not grounded.
3.
Verify that the GPS antenna coax center conductor is not shorted to its shield or aircraft ground.
When the above conditions are verified, turn off the master power. Properly attach the external connectors. Slide
the unit into the panel and tighten the DZUS locking devices. Turn on the unit. During initialization, the unit performs
a comprehensive diagnostics routine. A failure of any system component is annunciated by a flashing "Fail" message
adjacent to the relevant category. This failure will cause the Message (MSG) annunciator to light and remain lit.
Consult the Pilot Guide for more information concerning FAIL messages.
3.2.2
