• Automatic detection

Automatically detects the transfer mode.

• unidirectional

(also: SPP) standard parallel port mode, the more reliable

but slower transfer mode works in most cases.

• bidirectional

For bidirectional mode (also SPP)

• Standard EPP

For computers with EPP (EPP = Enhanced Parallel Port).

• Fast EPP

For computers with a fast EPP mode.

• Choosing non-standard modes

(for computers with special parallel ports)

- Computers with National Semiconductor (NS) parallel port

- other computers with EPP

• Switching off EPP detection

When booting the computer, the EPP search routine is

disabled.

Use this option if you are encountering problems with

automatic detection.

• EPP write mode Set to

"Auto"

 by default.

Here you can enable or disable the faster EPP mode.

If you experience difficulties, deactivate this mode.

• IRQ (not in SPP) Here you can specify the Interrupt of your parallel port. A

properly functioning interrupt optimizes drive and system

performance.

If you experience difficulties with your printer, disable

this option.

- "Standard":  The standard interrupt setting is used.

- "Disabled":  An interrupt is not being used.

- For example "7" or "5":

Interrupt number of the parallel port

Note: The "FREECOM Configuration" configures the device to the parallel

port of the PC. In case you wish to change the basic settings (address, IRQ,

mode) of the parallel port in your PC, you can do so in the so-called BIOS

of your computer.

Settings in the PC's BIOS

The most common way to enter the BIOS of a PC is to press the

"DEL"

-button while

the computer is booting and a message appears on the screen:

"To enter SETUP

press DEL...".

The further procedure depends on type and manufacturer of your PC. Please,

check the PC´s manual or the manual of the mainboard for details.
The following example is given for a ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A59IG0E) of Award

Software Inc. There you will find the basic settings of the printerport in the menu

"Integrated Peripherals"

. Select this item while moving with cursor keys, then

press

"ENTER"

. In the next screen you will find the item

"Onboard Parallel Mode"

where  you can change the setting using the

"PgUp

"

 and

"PgDn

"

 keys.
