If access is only available in the center of the tank, as shown in Fig. 10a below, an insert is 
required to direct the flow to both ends of the tank to ensure complete coverage if no directional 
flow is provided as in Fig. 10a. The flow path with the directional insert is shown in Fig. 10b.

Choosing the inlet and outlet ports or openings on the UST is also important. The largest opening 
on the UST should be used for the inlet. This is typically a 100 mm (4”) opening. This opening 
must not have any internal pipework connected to it such as a drop pipe. Any internal pipework 
must be removed from the inlet opening or a different opening should be used. If the largest 
available opening that meets these requirements is less than 75 mm in diameter, contact FFS.
