TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
PROBABLE CAUSE
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Failure to pump
Pump not properly primed.
Check that pump casing and suction line are full.
Speed too low.
Check RPM of source. See INSTALLATION.
Total head more than that for which pump was
intended.
A pump designed for higher head is needed.
Excessive suction lift.
Locate pump closer to water. Suction losses.
Reduced capacity
and/or head
Air pockets or leaks in suction line.
Check suction piping.
Clogged impeller, suction line or foot valve.
Remove and clean.
Reverse impeller rotation.
Check impeller rotation against arrow on casing.
Insufficient submergence of suction line.
Add lengths of suction pipe to keep submerged.
Excessive suction lift.
Locate pump closer to source of water.
Total head was more than that for which pump was
intended.
A pump designed for higher head is needed.
Excessively worn impeller.
Order replacement parts using Repair Parts.
Pump loses prime
Air leaks in suction line.
Check suction piping.
Excessive suction lift and operating too near shut-
off point.
Move pump nearer water.
Water level drops while pumping, uncovering suction
piping.
Check water supply. Add length of pipe to suction
to keep submerged and under water.
Mechanical trouble
and noises
Bent shaft and/or damaged bearings.
Inspect shaft and bearings, replace if necessary.
Suction and/or discharge piping not properly sup-
ported and anchored.
Check that all piping is supported to relieve strain
on pump assembly.
Misalignment.
Check alignment of shafts for parallelism.
Seal leaking due to corrosion of sealing faces.
The pump seal supplied is for a fresh water use.
