bottom, top, and each side. Readings thus
obtained must correspond to those given in
section 10.3. If necessary, reposition bearing
housings as follows:
a) Attach dial indicators to pump casing [1100]
to read bearing housing [3200, 3230]
position in both directions
b) Loosen bearing housing bolting [6570.2].
c) Use jacking bolts on bearing housings [3200,
3230] to center rotor in seal bore
d) Tighten bearing housing bolting [6570.2]
e) Re-indicate shaft [2100] to ensure it is still
centered in seal bores
f) Redowel [6810.5] bearing housings
6.9.3.3 Rotor Axial Alignment
To set the rotor axial running position, proceed as
follows:
1) Establish that the rotor has been radially
centered and that the sleeve bearings [3020]
and bearing housings [3200, 3230] remain in
position.
·If your pump is equipped with a hydraulic
thrust collar, then refer to the COUPLING AND
THRUST COLLAR INSTALLATION drawing at the
back of this manual for installation procedure. Do not
use heat to install a hydraulic thrust collar.
2) Oil and assemble:
a) Inner retaining plate (if applicable), thrust
collar spacer sleeve [2460], thrust collar
[3610], and thrust collar key [6700.6] (if
installed)
b) Thrust collar locknut [3712.2] and lock
washer [6541].
Install base rings in matched sets.
Matching identification appears on both halves.
3) Assemble inner parts of double thrust bearing
[3032], as follows:
a) Lubricate base ring, leveling plates, and
shoes with light oil
b) Set bottom half of base ring on shaft and
rotate ring to bottom position
c) Set top half of base ring on shaft and make
certain that ends of leveling plates interlock
properly
d) Rotate bottom half of base ring to top, insert
shoes, and rotate back into bottom position;
then insert shoes in top half of base ring
4) Check thrust collar [3610] runout.
a) Set up dial indicator to read on face of thrust
collar [3610]. Hold shaft against thrust
bearings and rotate shaft [2100]. See
section 10.3 for limit. If runout is greater than
limit, check for burrs and dirt on parting
surfaces of shaft shoulder and thrust collar
[3610].
b) Set up dial indicator to read outside
diameter of thrust collar [3610]. See section
10.3 for limit.
5) Disassemble inner parts of thrust bearing.
a) Remove thrust bearing shoes from top half
of base ring, and then lift off top half of base
ring.
b) Rotate bottom half of base ring to expose
remaining inner thrust bearing shoes,
remove shoes, and lift off bottom half of
base ring.
6) Determine total axial movement of shaft [2100]
as follows:
a) Lay strip of masking tape on parting flange
of bearing housing [3200, 3230], extending
approximately 25 mm (1 in.) beyond each
face of the thrust collar [3610].
b) Push shaft toward coupling end as far as
possible.
c) Hold straight edge against outer face of
thrust collar [3610] and pencil position of
collar on tape.
d) Push shaft toward opposite end as far as
possible.
e) Hold straight edge against outer face of
thrust collar [3610] and pencil position of
collar on tape.
f) Measure distance between marks. Distance
must be equal to or greater than total shaft
movement given in section 10.3.
7) Reassemble inner parts of thrust bearing as
instructed in step 3 above.
8) Check running position of rotor as follows:
a) Push shaft toward coupling end until thrust
collar butts against faces of thrust bearing
shoes.
b) Hold straight edge against outer face of
thrust collar [3610] and pencil position on
tape. Measure distance to inboard mark.
Distance should equal distance D
determined in last phase of rotor lateral
movement (Figure 6-8) in vertical assembly
section 6.9.1.2.
9) If necessary, change length of thrust collar
spacer [2460] to reposition thrust collar [3610]
on shaft, as follows:
a) Disassemble inner parts of thrust bearing.
b) Remove thrust collar locknut [3712.2], thrust
collar [3610], thrust collar key [6700.6] (if
installed), and disc spacer [2460].
