Using the Cot
6.8 loading the Cot
Use additional help as needed to load a cot into a vehicle
when the cot is carrying a heavy body (See
Using
Additional Help,
page 24, and
Loading or Unloading
With Two Trained Operators,
page 23.
Maintain control of the cot at all times.
When working with untrained helpers, the trained operator
stands at the operator end of the cot, operates the controls,
and directs the helpers.
1.
Model 24H-miniMAXX only:
After the cot has been
rolled near the vehicle rear door, raise the loading end
of the cot to the loading position.
2.
Operator:
Stand at the operator end of the cot and
grasp the cot main frame using an underhand grip
(palms up). Support the cot but
do not lift it
.
3.
Operator:
Push the cot into the vehicle until both
loading wheels are on the floor of the compartment
and the loading-end legs touch the vehicle bumper
(Figure 21).
4.
Operator:
With your right hand, squeeze and hold
the
black
loading-end leg control handle and begin
pushing the cot into the vehicle. The loading-end legs
will fold (Figure 22).
5.
Operator:
Continue pushing the cot into the vehicle.
When the loading-end legs have completely folded,
release the control handle. Be prepared to assume the
remaining weight of the cot before proceeding to Step 6.
6.
Operator:
When the operator-end legs touch the
vehicle bumper, use your left hand to squeeze the
red
operator-end leg control handle. With any additional
helpers, finish pushing the cot into the vehicle as the
operator-end legs fold (Figure 23).
7. When the cot is completely inside the vehicle, release
the control handle. Secure the cot in the vehicle with
an approved Ferno cot fastener.
