REPLACING THE SPLINED SHAFT
Remove the upper chamber.
Remove the bearings (see Chapter 13).
Welding damages the bearings.
Lift the disk up using a hoist.
Grind an 11-mm-deep groove about 17 mm
from the edge of the shaft. See Fig. 27.

Heat the joint area, if necessary.
Move the splined shaft so that it comes loose
and can be removed.
Clean the shaft hole and install the new shaft
as shown in Fig. 27..
