Programming and Control
PRELIMINAR
Y
The IPL T PCS4 can be remotely set up and controlled via a host computer or
other device (such as a switch, hub, or router) attached to the rear panel LAN
port.
The PCS4 must be configured before use.
As shipped, the PCS4 works as a
standalone interface, but cannot control any other devices until it is configured.
The PCS4 can be set up and controlled by using the front panel (see chapter 3),
the Web pages (see chapter 4), or Extron’s Simple Instruction Set
™
(SIS
™
)
commands (discussed in this chapter). Both the Web pages and the SIS methods
are accessed via Ethernet LAN connection.
LAN port defaults:
•
IPL T PCS4 IP address:
192.168.254.254
•
Gateway IP address:
0.0.0.0
•
Subnet mask:
255.255.0.0
•
DHCP

Host-to-interface Communications
SIS commands consist of one or more characters per field. No special characters
are required to begin or end a command sequence. When the PCS4 determines that
a command is valid, it executes the command and sends a response to the host
device. All responses from the interface to the host end with a carriage return and
a line feed (CR/LF =
), which signals the end of the response character string. (A
string is one or more characters.)
Messages initiated by the IPL T PCS4
When a local event such as a front panel selection or adjustment takes place, the
PCS4 responds by sending a message to the host. No response is required from
the host. The following PCS4-initiated messages are sent (underlined):
©
Copyright 2004, Extron Electronics, IPL T PCS4 and IPL T PCS4i,, Vx.xx
Thu, 20 Feb 2004 17:51:04
The PCS4 sends the boot and copyright messages when it first powers on and is
connected via Telnet or TCP/IP. Vx.xx is the firmware version number. The
current date and time are displayed. If you are using a Telnet connection, the
copyright message, date, and time are followed by a password prompt.
Password information
The “
Password:” prompt is displayed only if there is a password defined in
the unit. It requires a password (administrator level or user level) followed by a
carriage return. The prompt is repeated if the correct password is not entered.
If the correct password is entered, the unit responds with “
Login
Administrator
” or “
Login User
,” depending on the password entered. If
the passwords are the same for both administrator and user, the unit defaults to
administrator privileges.
Error responses
When the PCS4 receives a valid SIS command, it executes the command and
sends a response to the host device. If the PCS4 is unable to execute the
command because the command is invalid or it contains invalid parameters, it
returns an error response to the host.
