PnP/PCI Configuration Setup
This section describes configuring the PCI bus system. PCI, or Personal
Computer Interconnect, is a system which allows I/O devices to operate
at speeds nearing the speed the CPU itself uses when communicating
with its own special components. This section covers some very
technical items and it is strongly recommended that only experienced
users should make any changes to the default settings. Below is an
illustration of the menu for this section. See Figure 3.10.
Reset Configuration Data
Typically, this field
Disabled
. Set this function to
Enabled
to reset the
Extended System Configuration Data (ESCD). This would be done
when you exiting Setup and a new add-on has been installed and the
system reconfiguration has caused such a serious conflict that the
operating system cannot boot. Set this function to one of the
configuration options:
Enabled or Disabled
.
Resource Controlled By
The Award Plug and Play BIOS has the capability to automatically
configure all bootable and Plug and Play compatible devices; however,
this capability means absolutely nothing unless a Plug and Play
operating system such as Windows
®
95/98/XP is installed. If this field is
set to
Manual
, specific resources have to be selected by going into each
of the sub menus and selecting them for the corresponding interrupts.
Set this function to one of the configuration options:
Auto (ESCD) or
Manual.
