Flashing the BIOS Without a CPU
If your motherboard cannot boot, or you are unable to see picture on your display, there
can be a number of potential causes preventing your motherboard from completing a
successful boot. Some of these are listed and explained below.
If other troubleshooting does not resolve your issue, or you’ve purchased this
motherboard with a BIOS version prior to official support for your compatible Intel
®
CPU, you may need to flash the BIOS.
Note: Before you begin, make sure that your USB flash drive is formatted as
FAT32, or this method of flashing the BIOS will not work, as noted above.
If you plan to use the included USB flash drive with the latest BIOS version
from the EVGA Website, please make sure to first follow the steps listed
above for the “To flash from power on state” section to prepare the flash
drive. Once the latest BIOS is placed in the root folder and renamed
EVGAE499.bin, you are ready to proceed with the BIOS update.
In order to flash the BIOS without picture, you must follow these steps:
1.
Turn off your Z490 DARK motherboard, if on, and turn your power supply off
by flipping the switch to the “Off” position.
2.
Plug in the included USB flash drive to the USB 2.0 to SPI
header, as noted in the component legend on Page 14,
component 34, or refer to this image:
3.
Make sure the 24pin power connector from your power supply is plugged in to
the motherboard.
4.
When ready, flip your power supply switch to the “On”
position and hold down the reset key.
5.
Continue holding down the reset key, as the POST
LED counts down from 4.
6.
When the flash begins, release the reset key. The POST LED will cycle in a
clockwise manner during the flash process.
DO NOT TURN OFF THE MOTHERBOARD. IF THE MOTHERBOARD
IS TURNED OFF PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE FLASH PROCESS,
THE BIOS MAY BECOME IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGED.
