4. The device may only be used for the purpose described in the operating instructions.
5. Never dehorn without or with worn out burning tips.
6. Avoid contact with the heated burning tip.
7. Always store your dehorning device in a clean and dry place not accessible for unauthorised
persons (especially children) and animals.
2. Use
2.1. Application purpose
This device is exclusively intended for dehorning calves.
2.2. Start up
The dehorning device is ready for use after a heating-up time of approx. 7 minutes. The ready
status can be also checked by a sample on a piece of wood: A black burn circle must form.
2.3. Dehorning
Fix the calf well, so that it cannot move its head (possibly with help of a second person).
Remove the hair within the area concerned. Burn out the horn bud, by turning the burner for
approx. 7 seconds while applying pressure. Finally peel out the inner parts of the burnt ring
with the point of the instrument. Apply an antiseptic after the procedure to avoid a wet or
purulent wound.
The dehorning of calves is only permissible WITHOUT anesthetic up to the age of six weeks
according to the Animal Protection Act. Older calves must be administered an anesthetic by a
veterinarian beforehand.
2.4. Cooling
Let the dehorner cool in open air on a suitable device.
Ensure that unauthorised persons (especially children) and animals cannot come into contact
with the equipment.
2.5. Maintenance
Check the equipment before each use for functional efficiency. The replacement of heating ele-
ments and tips may be only be carried out by expert personnel. Use only original spare parts.
Do not modify or change the dehorner. Repairs may only be carried out by an authorised
customer service. The equipment contains live parts, inappropriate intervention can lead to
mortal danger.
