Additional Instructions for the Stress Echo Couch
In contrast to an ordinary couch ergometer, the couch of the stress echo ergometer can be tilted infinitely
by up to 45 degrees to the left. By this, the heart is brought into a suitable position for ultra-sound
examinations during exercise. In this position, clearer and sharper ultra-sound images of the heart are
achieved. The tilting is controlled via the remote control.
The following supports ensure the patient's safety in any tilt position and give him a secure feeling.
Lap Belt:
The belt is lead around the patient's lap and fixed using the Velcro strap in a position to keep the patient in
the middle of the couch surface. On applying the belt, make sure that it does not hinder the patient's
pedalling. When the belt is not used, roll it up and fix it to the ergometer's right side using a Velcro strap.
Handlebar with Shoulder Support:
This handlebar is positioned to keep the patient in the middle of the tilted couch. The handle is extended to
a distance that keeps the patient's arm away from the examination area. The shoulder's angle of rotation
must be considered.
Right Armrest
This armrest is set to support the patient's right arm in a
comfortable position. For a stress echo examination, the blood
pressure cuff must be applied on the right arm. Please make sure
that the microphone is positioned at the inner arm on the brachial
artery and the cuff is lying flat on the arm.
Blood Pressure Measurement during a Stress Echo
Examination
For normal ergometry examinations, we recommend to fix the
armrest to the left and the handle to the right. The blood
pressure can be measured on the left arm as usual.
During a stress echo examination, the blood pressure must be
measured on the right arm. For this, the cuff is applied so that
the microphone is positioned on the right inner arm approx. 3 cm
above the elbow. The cuff must lie flat with the tube exit
facing downward. This is slightly more difficult on the right arm
than on the left arm. This is why a little bit more care must be
applied with this method. Further more, you must make sure that
the cuff’s air tube cannot dash anywhere.
Pedals and Pedal Straps
The feet must be positioned with the balls on the pedals. They are then secured using straps. Pedals in
which the whole foot is entered and fixed are available as an option.
Couch's Installation and Stability
Position the couch in a way giving you access to the patient from any side. The couch's left back foot is
extended and contains a base adjustor. Block all 3 rolls with the brakes. Adjust the base adjustor to
prevent any play. This ensures the ergometer's absolute stability in all tilt positions up to a patient weight
of 160 kg. If the couch should still shake due to floor unevenness, all rolls can be replaced by base
adjustors.
