- A means for electronic machines to communicate. Inter-
face also means to communicate with a computer and its
peripheral components.
kilobyte (KB)
- A single data unit that is composed of 1024 bytes.
math coprocessor
- A math coprocessor lets you do arithmetic and calcula-
tions more efficient.
megabyte (MB)
- A single data unit that is composed of 1,048,576 bytes.
memory address
- A hexadecimal or decimal value given to a memory loca-
tion.
microprocessor
- This is an integrated circuit that receives coded instruc-
tions for execution. It is also referred to as a CPU.
modem
- A modem lets your computer communicate with other
computers over telephone lines.
motherboard
- It is the main printed circuit board in the system case. It
is also known as a mainboard or systemboard.
MS-DOS
- The Microsoft Disk Operating System. This is the most
popular operating system for IBM PCs and compatibles.
network
- A network lets everyone in your group communicate with
one another or share the cost of high-performance
resources.
