7. Features: Reading
The features of the Envision Glasses are divided into four categories: ‘Read’, ‘Call’,
‘Identify’ and ‘Find’.
This category of features reads out pieces of written information such as books, a
menu at a restaurant, a handwritten note, or the platform signs at a train station.
The read category has three features: ‘Scan Text’, ‘Instant Text’ and ‘Batch Scan’.
7.1 Scan Text
‘Scan Text' is the first feature in the ‘Read’ category. This feature allows you to take
a scan of a document or piece of text. Whereas ‘Instant Text’ immediately starts to
read any text detected by the camera, ‘Scan Text’ is meant for denser and longer
pieces of text and handwriting. Additionally, the scanned text is opened in a reader
which allows you to play, pause, or navigate to specific parts of the text. Scan Text
also offers word detection to guide the positioning of the document in front of the
glasses. With word detection, you can understand how much of the text in front of
you is captured by the camera and adjust the document accordingly.
7.1.1 Using Scan Text (with Word Detection)
Follow these steps to activate ‘Scan Text’:
1. Navigate to ‘Read’ in the category menu.
2. Go to ‘Scan Text’ and open the context menu by doing a two-finger single tap.
3. In the context menu you will hear whether word detection is enabled or
disabled. If it’s disabled, do a one-finger double-tap to enable word detection.
4. Swipe down to go back to the ‘Scan Text’ screen.
5. Do a one-finger double-tap to open ‘Scan Text’, you will hear a sound cue that
the camera is active and is looking to detect words.
6. Grab a document and hold it in front of the camera. The more words it
detects, the higher the frequency of beeps that will be played. Keep in mind
that the type of document and amount of words determine the frequency of
beeps that will be played.
