Fault diagnosis
9.7.1
The engine fails to start after idle periods.
If the machine fails to start up after periods of inactivity, then this could be the result of any
of the following causes:
a.
Low on petrol
b.
Petrol is stale
c.
Bad sparkplug
d.
Low on oil
Caution:
Before examining possible reasons for the fault, the starter key must always be
in the OFF position.
a. Low on petrol
In § 12 - Storing the machine - you are advised to remove any residual petrol before long
term storage of the machine. You may, therefore, have forgotten to refill the machine.
Check that the tank is adequately filled and refuel if necessary (read § 9.3.1)
Let the starter engine run for a while after refuelling. Close the throttle (choke) - the
petrol will now be sucked into the line. The engine will start running as soon as the
carburettor has filled.
