Or, if you prefer, you can dispose of the old lamp as described below:
1. For safe disposal, first relieve the pressure within the lamp module by
opening the lamp gas valve and allowing the Xenon gas to escape. This
valve lies beneath a small plastic seal protruding from the right end the
lamp (i.e., the end opposite the glass surface). To open the valve:
2. Place the lamp module on a stable worksurface, with the glass lens
surface facing left as shown in Figure 4.6.
3. Locate the plastic seal protruding
from the right side of the module—
the side opposite the lens (Figure
4.5). Remove this seal to expose the
valve screw underneath.
4.

tighten the valve screw
until the lamp module begins to
hiss, signifying that the lamp seal is
broken and the Xenon gas is
escaping. Note that although this
gas is not harmful to the
atmosphere, always direct this surface of the module away from you and
others.
5. Wait for the hissing to subside, which may take up to 20 seconds or more.
6. Dispose of lamp with regular trash. Keep in mind that the integral lamp
timer contains a small amount of mercury—this mercury must be treated
as hazardous waste if discarded in volume.

Hold the new lamp module with the wire
handle facing you (the two brass nuts will
be on the opposing side). Make sure that
the glass lens surface is on your left —
otherwise the unit will be upside down.
See Figure 4.6
Ensure that the small plastic seal is intact
on the right side of the module (described
