HOW TO USE YOUR CARAVAN’S EQUIPMENT
BPW INTELLIGENT DRIVE CONTROL
(IDC) SYSTEM
Your new Crusader caravan has the BPW
Intelligent Drive Control fitted as standard. Below
is a brief explanation on how to ensure it is
working correctly, full details of this system and
maintenance instruction are provided within the
iDC documention provided within your user
handbook pack.
iDC operating instructions
Checks prior to any towing:
•
Tyre pressure/tyre condition.
•
Wheel mounting.
•
Operation of the lighting and brake system.
•
Pull up and fasten jockey wheel. The jockey
wheel should always be positioned parallel to
the driving direction.
•
Check coupling. The ball-shaped coupling
must enclose the ball completely and firmly.
•
Fasten the break-away cable at the vehicle.
•
Release parking brake.
Prior to towing:
•
Couple caravan.
•
Insert 13-pole connector.
•
Check caravan lights.
•
Check status indicator (LED) of the iDC.
When connecting with the continuous positive
electricity of the battery, the iDC effects a self-
test. During the performance test, the brake
linkage of the trailer will be actuated, which will
result in enormous forces at the moving parts.
Observe that neither objects nor parts of the
body are within the working area during this
process.
After the self-test the status LED must be
illuminated green. If this is not the case, see
chapter “A-2 LED Flashing Code within the BPW
documentation”.
Proper operation of the iDC might be affected.
But the vehicle can be moved further.
The self-test cannot be executed perfectly or
does not give a correct message in the following
situations:
•
After long stop periods.
•
Brake in automatic reverse gear mode -
move the vehicle for some meters in driving
direction.
The self-test must be finished prior to driving.
For new vehicles - after your first trip:
•
Check wheel bolts for tightness using a
torque wrench. Always check the wheel bolts
after each tyre change.
•
Recommendation: Check the brake system
after approx. 500 km and readjust it, if
required.
