1 Technical description of the ELCONnect coax System
1.1 Scope of application
With the ELCONnect coax technology, ELCON Systemtechnik GmbH offers a system that is
designed for the distribution of data, voice and multimedia services via the existing unidirec-
tional cable television networks. Thanks to the flexible system configuration and the both
simple and cost-effective system installation and expandability, this technology can be used in
numerous different applications scenarios, e.g.:
•
to provide broadband access in hotel rooms
•
to distribute broadband services or to provide network access for the „Last Mile“
•
to enable IP telephony with suitable hardware and proper services

1.2 Functional principle
The ELCONnect coax technology uses the „idle” frequency range of TV signals. The injected
Coax signal does not affect the existing television and radio channels, since they can be found
in the upper frequency range (fig. 2).

In hotels which offer their clients pay-TV, the coaxial cable is also used for transmitting the
charging signal. The frequencies of this signal range between 11 MHz and 17 MHz, so they
are within the range occupied by the ELCONnect coax System (see fig. 3).
