13. FUEL SYSTEM
Inspecting the carburetor
Check carefully when reassembling the carburetor that there are no components showing signs of wear or loss
of shape, so as to avoid any fuel or air leaks.
If the body of the carburetor itself is clearly worn or degraded to the point of being potentially unfit for use, the
entire carburetor must be replaced.
Throttle valve - housing
inspect the flap and housing of the throttle valve for
possible physical deterioration: cracks, distortion,
nozzle damage, etc.;
operate the flap by hand; the spindle should
turn smoothly and uniformly, with no parallel
movement;
check the fuel inlet for possible damage, making
certain of a secure connection with the carburetor
body
Setscrews
Inspect the setscrews carefully for possible damage or
distortion.
Check the tip and threads of the needles with particular
care, and replace if necessary.
Carburetor body
check the pump cover and the pulse port for possible
damage or distortion;
use a straightedge to check that the mating surfaces
of the pump body are true
Diaphragm
inspect the diaphragms for any signs of stiffening or
rupture. Stiff, worn or damaged diaphragms must
be renewed;
inspect the single diaphragms using suitable
illuminated viewing instruments. Renew any
diaphragm presenting leaks, pinholes or other
damage.
