13. FUEL SYSTEM
Setting the needle lever
The correct position of the needle lever is found using a special gauge (see fig.) and influences:
normal running and idling characteristics of the engine;
running at high speed;
acceleration/response of the engine.
Servicing the idle control system
The main problems tending to affect the fuel system are caused by impurities.
The idle chamber is enclosed by a cap.
Ease the cap off the chamber with a pointed tool (see fig.), taking care that the point does not damage
the idle jet.
Inspect and clean the jets, then replace the cap supplied with the carburetor service and repair kit.
Never use pins or pricks for cleaning purposes.
Filter, needle and valve seat
The function of the needle is to allow only the necessary
amount of fuel into the metering chamber.
When looking for faults in the fuel system, the first step
should be to pressurize the fuel pump and check for possible
leaks.
Basic adjustments
Before making any adjustment or carrying out
repairs on the carburetor:
inspect the air filter, and clean if necessary;
check that the fuel filter is clean, and that the
tank is full of clean, fresh fuel of the correct
octane number, correctly mixed;
check on brushcutters: that the cutter disc
is standard or the nylon line projects 5 cm
(2”) on each side;
adjust the carburetor setscrews as indicated
in the setting tables provided.
