Simple Maintenance Tips
Having an electric bike that breaks down or isn't running smoothly can be troublesome. Here are a few
simple things you can do to avoid problems and keep your ebike running smoother for longer.
Electric bikes are bicycles that have additional technology to provide electric powered pedal assistance.
Because they tend to get used so much more than a regular bicycle and at greater average speeds,
maintenance is a critical factor in keeping your ebike running smoothly
.
You don't need to have any fancy workshop or very specialized tools if you follow these few simple tips.
Bike Maintenance
Regularly check the major touchpoints bolts for tightness. These are the handlebars, seat rails, wheels
etc. If any of those come off while riding it could be dangerous. Riding with loose bolts on your bike can
be an expensive and inconvenient repair, can cause injury or even death.
Lube the chain regularly.
Check the tire pressure at least once a week. Pump up the tires to your recommended pressures if
needed.
Clean your ebike with a regular hose and bucket or brush. Avoid using high pressure water systems as
you do not want water getting into the electronic systems.
Electrical Maintenance
Be careful when handling your bike to ensure that you are not bumping the motor battery or any of its
electric components into hard or hard sharp surfaces. Be extra careful when you're moving your bike in
and out of cars, stairs or tricky storage areas.
Be careful not to knock your wiring, particularly on components such as the lights, motor cables near the
wheels, and sensor cables, etc.
Be careful when you are sliding the battery in and out of its holder to make sure that you don’t bend any
of the nodes on the battery plate or damage the outer casing of the battery which would become
hazardous or possibly nonfunctional in rain if case is cracked. You should never ride with power on if you
have a cracked battery case.
It is strongly advised that you have your ebike serviced regularly by a skilled bicycle mechanic. Preferably
one working on electric bikes. At a minimum, your ebike should be inspected by a professional at the
start of each season for your safety and for the longevity of your new ebike.
