3.6.2 Inserting the test probes and testing the feeder
IMPORTANT
BEFORE THE PROCESS OF INSERTING THE TEST PROBES AND TESTING
THE FEEDER CAN BEGIN, THE INCOMING FEEDER MUST BE GROUNDED.
THIS IS ACHIEVED BY COMPLETING STEPS 1 THROUGH 16 IN SECTION 3.3 -
“GROUNDING THE INCOMING FEEDER”.
3.6.2.1 Complete steps 1 through 16 in Section 3.3
“Grounding the Incoming feeder”. Make sure the locations of the

3. Insert key “KB” into Lock # 1 and release key “KU”. This will
allow the breaker to be open.
4. Plug in the remote operator to the receptacle in the front of the
38 kV SEG&TD.
5. On the remote operator, depress “OPEN” button until the unit
is opened.

OFF
1. Change selector switch to “OFF”. Remove the remote operator
from the receptacle.
2. Using the racking crank provided, engage the end of the raking
crank with the racking mechanism of the 38 kV SEG&TD (see
Figure 32). Turn the raking crank counter clock-wise until the
SEG&TD is fully racked out to the TEST position.
3. Visually check to make sure the 38 kV SEG&TD is open and
racked to the "TEST" position.
4. Insert key “KU” into Lock # 1, and release key “KB”. This will
disable the device electrically.
5. Insert key “KB” into Lock# 2 and release key “KC”. This will
disable the "CLOSE" function (mechanically and electrically) and
thus the device is locked in "OPEN" position.
6. Insert key “KC” into Lock # 3. This will allow the shoot bolts to
be freely retracted inward and breaker can be pulled out of the
cell.
3.6.2.4 Convert to probing configuration
Refer to Appendix C for converting from:
configuration # 1e: Grounding configuration to
configuration # 2e: Voltage probing configuration.
1. Remove the grounding shunt assembly.
2. Install Nylon insulator along with the conductor gasket on the
pole units.
3. Rack in the SEG&TD to TEST position by pulling the shoot bolts
in and pushing the SEG&TD up to TEST position. Once at TEST
position, release the shoot bolts.

2. Rotate key “KC” from Lock # 3 and lock the shoot bolts handle.
Release key “KC”.
3. Insert key “KC” into Lock # 2 and release key “KB”.
4. Insert key “KB” into Lock # 1 and remove key “KU”. This will
allow the SEG&TD to be closed.
5. Plug in the remote operator to the receptacle in the front of the
38 kV SEG&TD.
6. On the remote operator, depress the “CLOSE” button. The
device will charge and close automatically.
