14.  On the remote operator, depress “Close” button momentarily. 

The 38 kV SEG&TD will charge and close automatically (see 

Figure 41).  Note that the device has self-sealing capability and 

does not require a "Close" button to be depressed until 38 kV 

SEG&TD is closed.  (The incoming feeder is grounded.)

15.  Insert key “KU” into Lock #1 and rotate to release key “KB”.  

This electrically disables the 38 kV SEG&TD (see Figure 42).

16.  Insert key “KB” into Lock #4 and rotate key “KD” to release 

and store in Utility Box. This mechanically locks the  

38 kV SEG&TD in the “Close” condition. (38kV SEG&T device 

cannot be opened (see Figure 42).

Noticee:

 At this point the 38kV SEG&TD has “Grounded the 

Incoming Feeder”.

3.4  Un-grounding the incoming feeder

1.  Selector Switch is in the “OFF” position. Keys should be in the 

positions from Step 3.3.16.

2.  Obtain key “KD” from the Utility lockbox.
3.  Insert key “KD” into Lock #4. Release key “KB” and place into 

Lock #1. This electrically enables the 38 kV SEG&TD.

4.  Release key “KU” and place into Utility Box.
5.  Make sure the selector switch is in the “Off”’ position (see 

Figure 38).

shape) however; both operate the same way.

6.  Insert the remote operator connector into the receptacle in the 

front of the 38 kV SEG&TD (Figure 39).

7.  Rotate the selector switch to the “Open”’ position (Figure 7).
8.  On the remote operator, momentarily depress the “Open” but-

ton (Figure 54). The 38 kV SEG&TD will open.
