IMPORTANT:

The contacts are so designed and con-

structed that they should last for the life of the breaker,

unless applied in a highly corrosive atmosphere. If they

become oxidized or corroded the contact may be cleaned

by wiping the surface with a clean cloth dipped in carbon

tetrachloride or other chlorinated solvent. If badly cor-

roded, surface may be scraped lightly with a fine file to

restore low contact resistance.

ASSEMBLY

Before the trip unit can be installed in the breaker frame the conductors

K

must be assembled to the trip unit with retaining screws and

lockwashers L. Insert conductors K through rectangular slots in the trip

unit from the load end. The conductorsare interchangeableand may be

installed in any pole of the trip unit. Assemble screw and lockwasher L

in the holes in the bottom of the trip unit under each conductor. The

screw will extend through the laminated core and engage a hole in the

conductor.Tighten the screws on the lockwashers and the conductors

will be held loosely in place. The screws will prevent them from slipping

out of the slots.Thread the two screws C through the holes in the trip

unit bracket and center conductor. The screw shanks are undercut so

that both screws will be held captive in the center pole. The trip unit is

now ready to be installed in the breaker frame.

INSTALLATION

Position trip unit in the breaker frame per Fig. 1 and make certain that

the trip unit bracket pin sits in the slots in the frame mechanism as at E.

The 2 center screws C are held captive in the center pole of the trip unit

and are to be tightened first. Outside pole screws D are supplied with

the frame and trip unit. These screws are tightened last after those in

the center are securely tightened. Use a socket wrench for a final hard

tightening to make sure that all 6 screws are securely in place. Tighten

with a torque of 15 ft. Ibs. max.
