AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION
This appliance is intended for installation
on an outdoor patio or in your yard. It
must never be installed inside a building.
It is recommended that this appliance be
installed in a sheltered area. Direct wind
will cause an erratic flame and possible
pilot or main burner outage.
An erratic flame could also lead to exces
-
sive sooting. This is not a safety issue
but is visually undesirable.
Typically installation may include a cov
-
ered patio, screened porch, gazebo or
outside the wall of a home.
Ensure the area has adequate ventilation.
See Locating the Fireplace, page 8.

Moisture Resistance
To prevent excessive water collection
the fireplace is designed to drain water
from the forward openings on the bottom
of the fireplace. The installation must
provide a way to drain the water from the
base of the unit by building or installing a
raised platform with openings positioned
under the drain area. Additional space
below the unit will also required a drain
opening to allow the water to drain from
the enclosure.
When installed on exterior walls, the
fireplace cabinet should be constructed
outside the structure's weather barrier.
Where the platform meets the wall, use
a flashing detail similar to that required
for attached decks. Fireplace cabinet
platforms, including hearths, should slope
away from the structure at 1/4" per foot.
The fireplace can be shimmed level.
When installed on surfaces where water
may collect or cause damage, a slope of
1/8" to 1/4" per foot. Metal safety strips
must be on top of any combustible hearth
materials used for moisture management.
When purchasing a firebox or fireplace
we recommend you also buy a weather
cover to protect the unit form moisture.
Never install a burner where moisture
cannot drain off easily. A weather barrier is
recommended, such as a cover to protect
the burner from moisture.
It is highly recommended to protect the
logs from moisture (rain, snow). Cover
the enclosure opening when not in use.
Always ensure the pilot is extinguished
prior to covering.
