INSPECTING BURNERS
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 27 shows a correct and incorrect pi
-
lot flame patterns. The incorrect pilot flame
is not touching the thermocouple. This will
cause the thermocouple to cool, which
shuts the fireplace off. There should not be
excessive flames present under pilot shield.
If unit has been converted to propane gas
and the pilot injector orifice has not been
replaced, there will be excessive pilot
flames. Install propane injector orifice if this
is the case.
If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown
•
turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to
Appliance, page 25)
•
see Troubleshooting pages 29 through
32
Notice:
Do not mistake orange flames with
yellow tipping. Dirt or other fine particles
enter the fireplace and burn causing brief
patches of orange flame.
BURNER FLAME PATTERN
For model DF450SS-G the burner flames
should rise approximately 3" to 6" above the
burner.
For model DF450SS-L Figure 28 shows
a correct burner flame pattern. Figure 29
shows an incorrect burner flame pattern
(actual logs will vary from those shown). If
burner flame pattern is incorrect then:
•
turn fireplace off (see To Turn Off Gas to
Appliance, page 25).
•
see Troubleshooting pages 29 through 32
BURNER PRIMARY AIR HOLES
Air is drawn into the burner through the holes in the fitting at the entrance to the burner.
These holes may become blocked with dust or lint. Periodically inspect these holes for any
blockage and clean as necessary. Blocked air holes will create soot.
