TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING: ALL THE SERVICE PROCEDURES BELOW SHOULD BE EXECUTED WITH POWER OFF I.E. UNPLUGGED.
PROBLEM
CAUSE
SOLUTION
Unit does not run.
Switch not turned on.
No power at outlet.
Circuit is overloaded and panel circuit
breaker tripped.
Loose wiring.
Switch is broken.
Turn on switch.
Check panel circuit breaker and check outlet
with receptacle tester.
Unload circuit and reset circuit breakers.
Check wiring and tighten as needed.
Replace switch.
Unit runs briefly, then
shuts off on overload.
Intake and/or exhaust grill(s) ob-
structed.
Excessive duct length.
Motor bearing or internal motor wiring is
faulty.
Clean grill(s).
Shorten duct length.
Replace motor.
Unit runs but vibrates
excessively.
Dirt has built up on fan blade.
Severe jolt has bent motor shaft so unit
is out of balance.
Fan blade is damaged.
Clean fan blade
Replace motor. Replace fan blade if neces-
sary.
Replace fan blade.
Unit runs but makes a
scraping noise.
Severe jolt has deformed motor mount
so fan rubs.
Severe jolt has deformed the housing.
Repair or replace the motor as necessary.
Replace the housing or entire unit as neces-
sary.
Motor makes noise
but fan does not turn.
Severe jolt has deformed motor mount
so fan rubs.
Severe jolt has deformed the housing.
Capacitor wire is broken or loose, or ca-
pacitor has failed.
Roll pin locking fan to motor shaft is
faulty.
Repair or replace the motor as necessary.
Replace the housing or entire unit as neces-
sary.
Repair or replace the wires and/or the capaci-
tor as necessary.
Replace the roll pin.
