3.2 Settings
For broadband access, you need to know what kind of Internet access is
provided by your ISP.
Click
Internet Access
to open the Internet access page.
There are four widely-used broadband access services,
PPPoE Client,
PPTP Client,
Static IP
for DSL, and
Dynamic IP (DHCP Client)
for Cable.
In most cases, you will get a DSL or Cable modem from the broadband
access service provider.
PPPoE
Some DSL-based ISPs use PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over
Ethernet) to let users establish Internet access. All local users can
share one PPPoE connection to access the Internet.
Static IP
It means a fixed or permanent IP address. Choose Static IP if your ISP
provides you with a permanent IP address.
Dynamic IP
It means that “Obtain an IP automatically”. In most circumstances, the
cable modem that you are connecting shall obtain a dynamic IP
address from the ISP.
PPTP
Some DSL-based ISPs use PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)
to establish Internet connection for users. The PPTP is available in
Europe and Israel. As a result, your DSL modem only supports the
PPTP tunnel to access the Internet. You shall create a PPTP tunnel
that carries a PPP session and terminates on the DSL modem. Once
the tunnel has been established, this kind of DSL modem will forward
