Cleaning the Reusable Suction Bottle
CAUTION:
Do not flash autoclave the glass bottle. Equipment damage could occur.
1. Discard the filter and tubing.
2. Use an EPA-registered disinfectant-detergent, such as cold sterilants and quarternary ammonium
compound disinfectants to soak the bottle and cap assembly.
3. Clean all surfaces and parts thoroughly with a nylon bristle brush. Make sure to clean all holes and
indentations.
4. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.
5. Autoclave at 250 °F (121 °C) for 15 min.
6. Replace the filter and tubing after each patient use.
Cold or Gas (Ethylene Oxide) Sterilization
CAUTION:
Do not expose plastic and acrylic to direct radiation from germicidal lamps. Ultraviolet radiation
from these sources can cause cracking and crazing of clear plastic and acrylic.
Before gas sterilization, the entire unit must be thoroughly cleaned as described in the cleaning topics of
this section. Remove and discard all disposable elements. New disposable elements must be installed
after sterilization. Standard gas sterilization procedures, as programmed by automatic equipment, are
satisfactory as these do not normally exceed 54.4°C.
After sterilization, perform a complete operational checkout procedure (see “Operational Checkout
Procedure” on page 4-15).
