identification of the cylinder is present on the cylinder. The cylinder, as an integral
part of the SCBA, is located on the back of the user with the connector facing
down (except PI models) and is secured by a special harness and backpack or
carrying bag. On the cylinder is mounted a high-‐pressure valve with handwheel of
easy grip. The valve is equipped with a cylindrical thread M18x1.5 for connection
to steel cylinders and composite. Only for steel cylinders is available on request a
version with conical thread W19.8x1/14 (E17). The valve is made of forged brass,
nickel-‐plated externally, and for its complete closure/opening is necessary to
make more than two turns of the handwheel. This operation must be carried out
without the use of force and any type of tools.
The handwheel, for the opening and closing of the valve, is disposed laterally to
be more easily accessible. A valve with axial handwheel is also available. The valve
also has a useful rubber protection placed on its lower end particularly,
advantageous in the case of a fall or vertical impact of the cylinder.
All models of valve include a protection tube which carries out the first contact
between the compressed air in the cylinder and the valve

Accessories
6.1
Cylinder photoluminescent
All cylinders are also available in a version with photoluminescent painting. This
staining, non-‐toxic, absorbs energy from ambient light (just briefly expose to the
headlights of a vehicle) and releases it slowly over a period of time greater than
the autonomy of the SCBA making the wearer easily identifiable in conditions of
poor visibility.
6.2
Auxiliary Gauge
It is placed on the cylinder valve and it allows to display qualitatively the state of
charge of the cylinder without pressurizing the pneumatic circuit of the SCBA. The
dial is easy to read, has a red dial with two green sectors that are marked "200"
and "300", depending on whether the SCBA has a maximum filling pressure of 200
bar or 300 bar. Under normal conditions of “ready to use” the gauge needle must
be within the appropriate field green, depending on the pressure rating of the
cylinder connected to the valve. The gauge of the valve is therefore a very
valuable support for the rapid display of the pressure inside the cylinder but does
not replace the main gauge of the SCBA that should instead be used for an
accurate quantitative measure of the pressure and therefore residual autonomy.
6.3
Push and Turn valve handwheel
The system, designed to further increase the level of safety in the prevention of
unintentional actuation of the valve, is constituted by a knob crowds, made of
self-‐extinguishing plastic, which controls the opening and closing of the valve only
performing simultaneously a double movement: a lowering and a rotation. A ring
of soft plastic material protects the knob from accidental impact.
