5.8 PRE-START UP CHECK LIST

1. Follow each component’s pre-start up check list.

2. Temporarily install vacuum and pressure gauges in

the 1/4" NPT ports located on the pump cylinder.
These can be used to check the actual suction and
discharge conditions after the pump start up.

3. Temporarily install pressure gauges in the lines going

to the DMX port #1 and to the DMX port #4. Carefully
avoiding to create any leakage source.

5.9 PUMP SPEED

PTO and hydraulically driven units MUST contain speed
control devices to prevent pump speeds above the maxi-
mum RPM specifications, regardless of the truck engine
unloading speeds.  Should fluid delivery be appreciably
less than expected, see the "General Pump
Troubleshooting" section of the TXD Pump Manual.

5.10 REVERSE ROTATION

Pumps installed with the DMX Air Elimination system
MUST NOT be operated in reverse rotation.

5.11 AIR / RELIEF VALVE

NOTICE :

THE PUMP INTERNAL AIR / RELIEF VALVE IS DESIGNED TO
PROTECT THE PUMP FROM EXCESSIVE PRESSURE AND MUST
NOT BE USED AS A SYSTEM PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE.

Pumping volatile liquids under suction lift conditions may
cause cavitation resulting in premature pump wear.

Partial closing of the discharge valve WILL result in inter-
nal relief valve chatter and is NOT recommended. For
these applications, install an external bypass valve, and
any necessary piping, back to tank. An external bypass
system is also recommended when operating for exten-
ded periods (more than 1 minute) against a closed dis-
charge valve or nozzle.

5.12 FLUSHING THE PUMP

Refer to the component IOM for flushing procedures and
recommendations.

5.13 AIR / RELIEF VALVE SETTING

Set the pump relief valve by adjusting the high pressure
regulator in the Air Control Panel. For adjustment proce-
dure, refer to "Setting of High Flowrate" and "Setting
Flowrate and Engine Speed" section of this manual.

Refer to the Blackmer parts list for the DMX Air Valve. Air
Control Panels are supplied from the factory with the low
pressure setting at 35 PSI (2,4 bar) and the high pressu-
re setting at 70 PSI (4,8 bar) .

INCORRECT SETTINGS OF THE PRESSU-
RE RELIEF VALVE CAN CAUSE SYSTEM
COMPONENT FAILURE, PERSONAL INJU-
RY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.

WARNING

Hazardous pressure

can cause

personal injury

or property damage.

OPERATION OF THE PUMP IN REVERSE
ROTATION MAYLEAD TO PRESSURE INSIDE
DMX EXCEEDING ITS MAXIMUM PRESSURE
CAPABILITYAND MAY CAUSE COMPONENT
FAILURE.

WARNING

Hazardous pressure

can cause

personal injury

or property damage.

INCORRECT SETTINGS OF THE BLACK-
MER DMX AIR/RELIEF VALVE CAN CAUSE
SYSTEM COMPONENT FAILURE, PERSO-
NAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.

WARNING

Hazardous pressure

can cause

personal injury

or property damage.

FAILURE TO RELIEVE SYSTEM PRESSU-
RE PRIOR TO PERFORMING PUMP SERVI-
CE OR MAINTENANCE CAN CAUSE PER-
SONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

WARNING

Hazardous pressure

can cause

personal injury

or property damage.
