INSTALLATION
I-50 Series Transmitter
When using any of the I-50 series transmitters as a stand-alone system,
simply place the transmitter in the center of the area you wish to protect.
The transmitter will radiate a radio signal field which can be adjusted up
to 8 feet in diameter. The size of the signal field is adjusted using the
range control.
NOTE:
Be sure the MODE switch is set to INT.
I-50 Transmitter with Boundary Wire
When using any of the I-50 series with boundary wire, place the MODE
switch to the EXT position. Connect one end of the boundary wire to the
transmitter terminal connectors.
Signal Field
To create a signal field using the boundary wire, you need to separate the
two halves of the wire. The range of the signal will depend upon the dis-
tance the two halves of the wire are from one another. When the two halves
are next to one another, there is no signal field. As the two halves are sep-
arated, the signal field will increase.

The boundary wire
must form a continuous loop for there to be a signal field. To accomplish
this, you must splice the final ends of the boundary wire together.
NOTE:
The boundary wire carries a harmless radio signal. You do not
need to worry about an electrical shock when separating and splicing
the boundary wire. The power indicator light will not go on if you have
not closed the boundary loop or if you have a broken boundary wire.
PLANNING
The boundary wire allows you to isolate specific boundary areas within
your house. Carefully plan the installation of your boundary wire and fol-
low these general guidelines.
• All wires should be placed so that they do not interfere with normal
household activities. Placing the wires beneath carpets, along base-
boards, and beneath counters is recommended.
• Carefully plan the location of the boundary wire as it may emit a very
slight radio signal which could activate the receiver collar if your pet
were to lie directly on top of the wire.
• Do not install boundary wires next to baseboard heating units as the
heating units could pick up the radio signal.
TRAINING
Philosophy and Basic Rules
Understanding the philosophy behind “avoidance training” and following
the rules during training will ensure that you and your pet get the most
from your system.
• Your pet does not intuitively know that he or she is not welcome in
every signal area of your home.
• You must learn to communicate with your pet. Be aware that pets are
especially sensitive to your attitude and mood. Stay “upbeat” during
a training session so he will be more receptive to the training.
• Reward and reinforce good pet behavior.
• The system relies on classic “avoidance training” techniques, where
your home is divided into safety and avoidance zones. If your pet
advances toward an avoidance zone, he will receive an audible warning
or cue. He will soon learn that when he advances further toward an
avoidance zone, the audible warning or cue is quickly followed by a mild
electrical stimulation or correction – an unpleasant but safe, experience.
As training progresses, your pet will learn to stay away from certain areas
that he associates with the audible warning. When the training is com-
plete, your pet will stay away from the avoidance areas without needing
to hear the audible warning or experience the correction.
• Do not comfort your pet after it receives a correction as you will be
reinforcing anxiety. Bring your pet into the safety zone and praise.
• Even though you consider your pet a friend, effective training
depends on your being the leader and pet being the follower.
• Be consistent! Do not break the training rules, even on special occa-
sions when you are tempted to allow your pet into a boundary area
“just this once”. Make sure all family members follow the rules.
