Diver Assist
The
Assist
menu popup selection provides information to the Dive Master to help direct one diver to
another.

1.
If a diver needs assistance, the Dive Master can select that diver from the
Diver Requiring
Assistance
popup list. In the Figure 60, Diver 2 has been chosen as the diver requiring assistance.
2.
The list box below will show information for every other diver regarding his or her range, heading
and depth to reach the selected diver. The
Dir
column indicates whether the diver needs to
ascend or descend and the
Depth
column how many feet or meters to reach the same depth as
the diver needing assistance. The list box indicates that Diver 4 (for example) is 91.7 feet away
and Diver 4 needs to descend 26.2 feet to reach the same depth as Diver 2. As new diver data is
acquired, this list will be updated to ensure the most accurate data is provided. This feature is
useful in helping the Dive Master to determine the best diver to send to the one requiring
assistance.
3.
With additional equipment (Shearwater® NERD or Petrel), the lower portion of the screen
provides additional functionality. The
Diver to Provide Assistance
popup list can be used to select
the diver that will perform the assist. If that diver does not have the Shearwater® device, a red
text alert will indicate so.
4.
The
Diver Assist
button will become available when a Shearwater® NERD or Petrel is available. If
pressed, a confirmation dialog will be presented to ensure the Dive Master wants to initiate the
assistance. If the Dive Master confirms, the Diver6 software will send messages so the
Shearwater® device can display the range and heading to reach the diver requiring assistance
(Figure 59).
5.
When a Diver using a Shearwater® device is issued an assist message, the diver will have the
option to accept the assist or cancel the assist. If accepted, the diver will be given a range, bearing,
and depth to the diver that needs assistance. Upon arrival, the diver can notify the Dive Master
that the target has been reached. Under certain circumstances, a diver may not be able to provide
assistance and can cancel the task thus sending a message to the Dive Master.
