Trouble Shooting the Q-Mux
Below is a shortlist of possible problems. The list does not cover all possible problems, but
should give direction on how to think about a problem and how to address it.
8.1
Questions to ask before Starting?
Brand new installation or previously working?
If this is the first time you are turning this
on, then almost anything could be wrong, so you may need to look at everything and work
your way through. On the other hand if the system has been working successfully for a
period of time, you know, for instance, that the Q-Node numbers and IDM numbers are
probably programmed correctly. If the system was being started for the first time, you would
have to consider that maybe these numbers were not setup properly.
Was anything recently changed on the system?
Did someone update some software or add
a new Q-Node or IDM? Chances are that the problem is being caused by that recent change.
That would be the first place to look, no matter how small or insignificant the change may
seem. Put things back to the way they were before the change and see if the problem goes
away.
If it was previously working, how was it working prior to the problem?
Was it solid as a
rock, never had any problems? Or did it never seem to work 100% and now has gotten
worse?
Were there any changes made to anything neighboring the system?
For example, was a
new machine with a big electrical motor added recently? If the system that was working
flawlessly, then suddenly starts to have problems, it can be caused by something completely
external to the Q-Mux system. For example, when the Q-Mux was installed the TBUSS
wiring ran separate of all other wiring and recently someone in the building added some
electronics and ran their noisy wiring along with the TBUSS wiring.
8.2
3505 Issues
Cannot use 24 SET Menu.
If the software option was installed on the System 3505 you will
not be able to use the 24 Set Menu. You will need to contact your distributor or Digitize to
arrange to have the Q-Mux software installed.
8.3
Node Issues
Node indicating short circuit.
If the two wires that make up the TBUSS are touching each
other, the Utility program will report a short on the TBUSS. Also check that none of the
IDMs were installed with the polarity reversed on the TBUSS.
