8.7 Network Settings
Network Configuration
: If set to Auto, the iDyl will automatically attempt to
connect to the network. Is set to Manual, you can change the following
settings:
•
Auto (DHCP)
: The iDyl tries to allocate an IP address from a DHCP
server located on the network. The subsequent IP address fields are
ignored, and are non-editable.
•
Manual (Static)
: The iDyl uses the following fields (IP Address / Subnet
/ Gateway / DNS Server) to manually configure network connection.
Using static configuration provides the following benefit:
If using DHCP lookup, if the iDyl is restarted, its’ IP address
MIGHT
change. Thus IP-enabled client remotes might get confused and will have
to rediscover the new IP address of the iDyl. This is not an issue for DF
Solutions remote software, but might be an issue for 3
rd
-party IP-enabled
remote controls. Bottom line? Use a static configuration if possible, but
is not essential.
•
IP Address
: If using Static network configuration, this specifies the local
IP address. Edit using the IR remote control.
•
Subnet
: If using Static network configuration, this specifies the IP
subnet. Edit using the IR remote control.
•
Gateway
: If using Static network configuration, this specifies the
gateway (could be a router/broadband modem). Edit using the IR remote
control.
•
DNS Server
: If using Static network configuration, this specifies the local
DNS server. Edit using the IR remote control.
