Expanding Your System
Installing Devices in the Lower Drive Bay Area
The lower drive bay area holds two 3.5-inch devices, a diskette drive, and, typically, a
hard disk drive. To upgrade the devices in the lower drive bay area, you must remove the
entire drive bay assembly from your system and then remove the devices from the
assembly and install the new devices. Perform the following steps:
1.
Turn off your system. Disconnect any external devices and unplug the power cord
from the wall outlet. Unplug the power and monitor cords from the back of the
system unit.
2.
Unlock and remove the left side panel, as described earlier.
3.
Remove the cables from the devices in the lower drive bay. Note the position of the
cables so that you can reconnect them to the correct devices later.
4.
Lift the retaining clip at the rear top of the drive bay assembly and slide the assembly
to the rear of the system unit (Figure 3-13).
________________________ CAUTION __________________________
Be sure to support the drive bay assembly so that it does not fall and damage the
circuit boards.
