Updating System Firmware

Introduction

This appendix explains how to use the firmware update utility.

System Firmware

The Digital AlphaStation 400 Series system contains four flashROMs:

•

Two with ARC (advanced RISC computing) console firmware, for the Windows NT
operating system

•

Two with SRM (system reference manual) console firmware, for the DEC OSF/1 and
OpenVMS operating systems

Update Utility

Use the update utility to update your ARC and SRM firmware. The update utility contains
three images:

•

Update utility itself

•

SRM image

•

ARC image

Flash Enable Jumper

Before you can update your system firmware, the flashROM enable jumper must be in the
right-enabled position. This is the default position. See the Digital AlphaStation 400
Series CPU Module Information for details on proper location of the jumper.
