System Overview
Introduction
This chapter describes the Digital AlphaStation 400 Series system hardware components,
including the motherboard, PCI (peripheral component interconnect) architecture,
keyboard, front panel, and rear panel.
Motherboard
Your Digital AlphaStation 400 Series system uses high-performance Alpha architecture
CPU modules.

The system box has the following features:
•
Three storage bays for half-height 5.25-inch devices.
•
Floppy disk controller that supports two floppy drives or one floppy and one tape
drive.
•
SCSI-2 (small computer system interface) controller with both internal and external
busses that support up to seven SCSI devices.
•
Two slots for PCI options, three slots for ISA (industry-standard architecture) options,
and one additional slot that can be used for either option.
•
Keyboard and mouse ports.
•
Two serial ports.
•
One enhanced bidirectional parallel port.
