SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Depending on the configuration and the setting
(drive wheel camber, centre of gravity at highly
active), the AS[01] handling characteristics can
be very agile and responsive. For inexperienced
wheelchair users, this can be unfamiliar and even
dangerous. In order to avoid falls and dangerous
situations, you should practice using your new
wheelchair on an even, manageable site. At the
beginning, it is very helpful to practice in the pre
-
sence of a second person – we highly recom
-
mend this.
Always observe the following
safety note:
t
Children and youths may never be
left alone with the wheelchair.
t
Before you use the wheelchair, verify
that all the attached parts are securely
fastened.
t
Always lock both brakes before you
sit down or get up from the wheelchair.
t
Remember: The pads can become very
warm if exposed to direct sunlight and
cause burns upon direct contact. For
this reason, cover these parts or avoid
exposing the wheelchair to direct
sunlight.
t
The wheelchair may not be used to
transport several individuals or loads –
this violates its intended use.
t
It is intended to transport one person
only, who is seated on the seat provided.
t
Never use the wheelchair under the
influence of alcohol or other substances
that can influence your attention span or
physical and mental alertness.
t
Remember that shifting the centre of
balance by moving your body or loading
the wheelchair can increase the risk of
tipping.
t
On an incline of over 10°, the risk of
tipping forward or backward is greater.
t
To increase backward tipping safety, you
can have a tipping sleeve mounted to
the wheelchair.
t
To overcome obstacles, please use a
ramp if available or ask an accompa
-
nying person to help you.
t
If you cannot go around grooves, ruts,
tracks or similar impassable points,
always cross them at a right angle (90°).
