4.2   Using the handrails to propel and 

stop the wheelchair

You can use the two handrails on the drive 
wheels to move the wheelchair backward and 
forward and manoeuvre it to the left or right. 

To do this, grasp the handrails with your hands 
and turn the wheel towards the front or back. 

Place your hand on the handrail with the thumb 

in the direction of movement and form a fist with 
your fingers that encloses the handrail.

To stop, let the handrail glide through your hand 
in a controlled manner.

WARNING

The handrails can become  
very hot after longer braking  
manoeuvres.
